AVI files not seen

I'm experiencing an interesting problem. Installed Turbo Cad16, as well as the tutorial program that came with it. When I go to the tutorial folder my computer shows that the folder is empty. Changed computers and the folder shows over 200 files...in fact... tried it in several computers and all of them show contents in this folder while mine continues to show nothing. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4014 and have never had this kind of problem viewing dvd's in the past... movies, music etc.
Is this a codec problem?
The computer plays AVI files just fine it's just not seeing them on this dvd rom, I even transfered the files from the original program disk to a thumb drive and it works there... they play just fine from there just not from the dvd rom.

I think that maybe the file is corrupted or the dvd drive might be dying? More importantly, do you get any hard drive error? It could be a virus problem as well, so have you tried to scan your pc fully and checked whether any virus problem can be eliminated? Or a bad sector on the disk - which could be where that AVI file is located so explains the problems you have with it?
