sad External Maxtor one touch HDD not recognised-Help!

A friend has given me his maxtor one touch HDD to transfer some data from-he uses a mac(dont know if this makes a difference?) and I have XP....my PC registers the drive as a new 'mass storage device' and also by it's name, it's also listed under device manager but shows as 'unallocated'.
I have searched for drivers and for any set up software but there does not appear to be any available for XP fro the one touch 2....
I cannot format the drive as I need the data!

I dont want to give up and know that there MUST be a way to solve this!!

    Any help vm apopreciated!

    Thanks

Unallocated means the drive is not initialized. Initializing the disk includes, patitioning and formating the partitions which make them ready to use. Check if the hard disk has been partitioned. I hope this helps you...

    Hello people,

Hurrah, I have figured it out.... you need to download Macdrive8 (either purchase full version or download free 6 day trial version), and it means that Windows can read a Mac formatted/partioned HD and vice versa.

Thanks to all those who tried to help!

Free Solution for this stuff. Download NTFS-3G software for Mac, which allows you to write to NTFS and FAT partitions, Format this disk as NTFS so that you can use it on windows without any software. while NTFS-3G is a free software. Hope this helps...
