Can i upgrade iMac with ATI Radeon HD 4850

I'm planning to buy out a new 3.06ghz 24" iMac, so that i can upgrade my iMac with the 'ATI Radeon HD 4850. I would be using my system usually for graphic design work and playing the odd game on it. So, can any body tell me that is it possible for me to upgrade iMac with ATI Radeon HD 4850? Is it possible for me to do so? let me know your views on the above issue. Any kind of information on the above topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

ATI is much better than Nvidia. ATI is faster, and has more stream processors, than Nvidia. The card has the same number of stream processors as the Radeon HD 4870 X2, which means there are two 'full' RV770 GPUs under the heatsink each with 160 five-way shader units (making a total of 1,600 stream processors over the two GPUs).

Most of what you're talking about is still all CPU intensive work vs GPU. It's very much faster than the rest of the options available in the iMac. The 4850 is a superior card, but if you're not doing a lot of 3D rendering, don't know if you would be taking advantage of it's power. As an open standard specification, OpenCL is a key enabler of ATI Stream technology, which allows developers to create highly efficient applications balanced across CPU and GPU resources for superior performance.

According to me it should work. ATI is much better than Nvidia. ATI is faster, and has more stream processors, than Nvidia. The GPU for sure can't be upgraded, and it comes down to brand preference. The 4850 is better on 3d rendering and gaming though.
