2 TB WD HDD not recognized in Windows XP

I have a huge problem: I bought this morning a sata HDD Western digital 2TB. I put in an external box and this box connects to USB2 on my PC.

The drive was recognized with the message "New storage device detected" but it was a bad end in the sense that I got an error message saying that it had ended badly (message too generic to be exploitable).

I do not see my HDD when I Start / My Computer / right click Manage. When I reboot, my PC seems to boot on this disk because I have a black screen on monetary notch: if I turn off the drive, windows starts!

I have used other USB sockets on my PC but nothing at all, can not access my drive!

    Partition magic drive invisible ...

Does anyone have any idea why my 2 TB WD HDD is not recognized in Windows XP?

Have you verified in the bios if your HDD appears as normal and the boot order? Did you installed the drivers for your external drive? Also look into disk management of windows so that you can see and if you can format it. If yes, then your external box is not compatible with 2TB discs.

FYI I have looked my drive and it is invisible in my BIOS. I have confirmed that my box and my external HDD have been sold without drivers. In addition it was recognized at the first connection in XP but it is the final step that went wrong.

What is your motherboard brand? Are you sure that you have the latest bios version? Go to the manufacturing web site and see if there is a new version available and if so take good care while flashing. And did you formatted your drive properly in NTFS?
