    Vista Not Reading DvD roms

Ok, So ive taken a look around on this site and cant find a solution.

I Have a Sony Optiarc Ad-7200S ATA, Ive just got my Hands on Vista Ultimate and Updated all the way to Service Pack 2.

Before this I had windows Xp on there and my DvD Rom read and installed games perfect. Now with Windows Vista on here I cant read them.

The Drive is visible and when the DvD is inserted it can tell me what is in there, I can explore it and see the files on there and also launch Auto-Run.
But the second I launch the Installer the DvD freezes, Only thing I can move is my Mouse. Cant click anything, Cant type anything. Cant even Ctr+Alt+Del.

Any help on this issue would be greatly apreciated.

this looks like problem due to service pack 2 so try to update your dvd rom driver first uninstall driver and reinstall latest one that might help you .

    Ok, Update.

So I Ripped an Old IDE DvD RW from my very old pc. Plugged this into my PC, Loaded up Vista and it worked fine.

I Even swapped the Sata cables round from HDD to DVD and no luck. Now the Fact that windows Vista wont read the DvD's but Xp will tells me that the DvD drive is fine.

I will try the Above post but i think ive tried it before but to no avail. Also I had this problem before I had SP2 installed. Ive shopped around and seen a DvD rw same model as my current but IDE. It only costs £15 but before I buy this i would prefer to try and sort this problem out as IDE is becoming obsolete as we all know.

Any other ideas? Im kinda desperate here, Im no Novice on computers but have tried everything I can think of.

    Thanks

    Update :

Taking a Look at this, The drivers etc.. on my Computer Recognize this as a CdRom Drive.

Strange? Well it reads CdRoms very easily, But not DvD's.

Could this be the case or does Vista just note them like this anyway?

It seems that your CD-Rom lens might got weak because of which you are facing such kind of issue, in that case i would recommend you to use CD lens cleaner and then check it out, hope now it should read your DVD and at the same time check out below links with similar issue

I have mate, That was one of the 1st things I did. Vista now sees this as a DvD Rw Drive after a few updates. But still no luck in reading DvD's.

I just dont understand, I think im going to buy an IDE DvD drive.

Isn't your dvd-rw in warranty? If it is, you can get it repaired/replaced from the service center. Else get a new one. I would not recommend you to go for an IDE drive. It is too slow in speed. But still the decision is all yours...
