blu-ray won't load without internet connection

I have heard that blu-ray won't load without internet connection? Do I need internet connection for Blu-ray? If it is true than it is a waste of money buying blu-ray player or even consoles that support blu-ray? Can anyone give me some more information regarding it?

Yes, if you want to playback movies you will not need internet connection. However, you will need connection if you wish to interact with the purchased BD-ROM movies that have interaction features such as update to date news or shopping then you may require internet connection.

I also agree that why Wireless connectivity is added to an entry level player. If that was the case then we'd all be buying the S550 and PS3 for that matter. Cost, Cost, Cost. Make sure you configure the Gaming Adapter on a PC , and make sure it successfully connects to the Internet before attaching it to your 350.

I think the network port on the back of a standalone blu-ray player is not for networking. It allows the player to access the internet for BD-Live features and firmware updates, nothing more. You cannot network the player and use it to transfer video to the computer.
