cd-rw drive does not recognize blank cd

I have Windows XP Service pack 3 installed on my machine. I used nero to burn all cds that I wanted to but afterwards I downloaded PowerISO and it also worked fine without any issues. But two days back it started giving me troubles, cause now if I want to burn any cds then my cd-rw drive does not recognizes blank cd. I also used nero but it also didnt work and the cd's were not at all getting recognized. I need help now, thank you.

    Install updates for SafeDisc
    • To see whether you need these updates installed, follow these steps:
    • Insert your game play disc.
    • Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
    • Type your CD letter and a colon, and then press ENTER.

For example, on most computers, the CD drive letter will be D. Therefore, you will type D:, and then press ENTER.
    • Type dir /a:h, and then press ENTER.

This will display all the hidden files on the disc. If there is a file that is named "SSIFSDAT.SYS" present, you do not need these updates installed for the game you are using. However, the installation of these updates may benefit other games.
SafeDisc Windows XP Fix for Microsoft Games
If you are using Windows XP, and you have fast user switching turned on, you may require an update file.

To obtain the update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Re: cd-rw drive does not recognize blank cd

Have you tried checking/swapping out the cables? Another possibility is that your Drive Lens might be dirty. How old is your drive? The average is 2-5 years, give or take a few. Try using DVDInfoPro to see what it might report about your CD/DVD drive capabilities. Also use it to report on your media (this tool is free for the first 14days but IMHO have found it worth the small cost of buying - which includes unlimited updates - for use when debugging CD/DVD drive and media issues)
