How to repair Compaq Presario DC jack

I have a compaq presario laptop purchased a year ago. My laptop DC jack is not working. When I connect the system to the power supply there is no light on laptop indicating the flow of current. I am sure the DC jack is damaged. I want to ask how can I repair it. Is there a way to replace the jack manually. Other than this my laptop boots on battery. Any help really appreciated.

I don't think you will be able to do that. The best option for your is to submit the laptop to a service center. You can repair it by any technician if it not under warranty. Otherwise the warranty will be void. And this will need a complete dis-assembly of the entire unit. It needs advance technical skills. I will recommend you not to touch by your hand for the safety and reliability of your hardware.

The DC jack is soldered to your system's motherboard. It will very inconvenient for you if you try to de-solder it and replace it with any other specific dc pin. The big issue here if you try to de-solder it and if it not placed properly then this can burn out your system board. Or else you are technical guy then just dissemble the entire unit. Remove the CD/DVD drive, keyboard, etc. and see the location of jack. You will have to remove the motherboard. Using a soldering Iron de-solder the pins of DC unit from down and place the same new type of DC jack on it.

You can put any 2.5mm DC power jack. Purchase that from a hardware shop and unscrew the laptop completely. Disconnect each and every thing from the motherboard. Care should be take and do not try this if you don't know to do it. Then using a 25 watt soldering iron remove the old jack. You can just place the iron at the bottom of jack on its pins. The silver metal will melt down and then remove it. Take care the molten silver element must not spread in the board. Then buy a new 2.5mm DC jack and place the pins on the holes and solder it.
