Laptop - AMD, PDC or C2D?

I'm going to exchange my laptop and get a new one for general use (internet surfing, working with documents etc) and am wondering if a C2D processor would result in significant speed improvement or not. I believe a PDC or AMD with atleast 2gb ram would be good enough for this work.

If a C2D isn't required, should I go for PDC or Dual core AMD processors?

If you need one to just do simple tasks like chatting and music/movies, i'd go for a simple dell inspiron. If you plan on playing lightweight games... i'd go for an asus or toshiba.. you could find a decent gaming one on newegg for around 1500. Personally, i find gaming laptops a waste of money.

For internet surfing and working with documents even celeron is also enough and with 2gb ram its more than enough also price difference between dual core and celeron is not significant also amd is also good and cheap option.
