    headphones plugged in but no voice

    I plugged in my headphones into my desktop CPU front jack port and windows XP popped up with a notification near to the clock saying somethings being plugged into the jack port, I could not hear sound from headphones but headphones are working properly.

    To check whether headphones are working properly or not please follow the following steps:

    Certain mini jack sockets have an additional contact that can sensed by the Motherboard when you insert a plug into the socket. Right click on your speaker icon (upper righthand corner of your desktop)->Choose "Open volume control"->then Click the Switches tab-> Check "Headphone Jack Sense"

    It may be that your Motherboard does not have this contact connected.in order to do the file edit thing follow these steps below:

    Open The terminal (at the very top and left corner of screen Aplications/Accesories/Terminal)

    then copy the line below;
    sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

    and paste it into terminal by right click / paste or with mouse wheel click (crtl+V doesn't work)

    or otherwise follow the steps:
    1. Go to control Panel
    2. Sounds and audio devices
    3. The Audio tab
    4. Then change the Sound Recording Device to Logitech Headphone INPUT

    Well I must say go to the official site of realtek & see if you get the manual to read so you can get the clear idea to do the needful settings.
    http://www.realtek.com/

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/11840850/U...Manager-Rev120 This is a manual that will give you an idea about the settings.

    I hope this helps.
