Onkyo 606 doesn't give out any sound through hdmi inputs

I'm having a xbox360 which i had connected with my Onkyo 606 through a hdmi cable with having amplituner connected with that similar hdmi cable. Now the problem is that when i try to play some games on it, i'm not getting any kind of sound from it. Onkyo only displays "PCM" sign on it, but it doesn't give out any kind of sound through receiver speakers. Can any body tell me that why i'm unable to get any sound? Does any body knows about it? Kindly help me out to get rid of the above issue. Any kind of help on the above issue would be appreciated.

Hey even i had a similar problem with my 805. I was able to get video but unfortunately was not getting any sound. You can try to test your port with a well known working device and cable. If it works, then the problem may be with your Onkyo. If the testing device doesn't work in the 4th input, then there may be a setting problem with the Onkyo, or it may some problem with your port.

For that you need to just follow the basic three types of AV receivers with HDMI input:

    1) It will only switch HDMI video but will not process with the audio part, so try to separate audio connection for HDMI sources.

    2) Then it will accepts LPCM audio (and bitstream of DD and DTS) over HDMI. That means to access HD audio you just need your source itself to decode the HD audio to LPCM (As PS3 does this). For example Onkyo 576 is one of the receiver.

    3) Then it will accept LPCM and bitstream audio over HDMI. That means it has an inbuilt decoders for HD audio, and this is the type of receiver for Dante01 which is trying to refer as the Onkyo 606.

So if all your sources are HDMI and you want just used HDMI connections, then you need an amp that is either from category 2 or 3.
