Sound card recognition problem in Windows 7

Hi all,

I have sound card recognition problem in Windows 7,whenever I play a audio or video no sound comes out of it, Earlier i had Windows Xp as my OS where i had no issue with the Creative SB X-fi sound card.

I tried to install the driver from the X-fi cd, but it said i need APOIM? i tried to download drivers from online but the drivers were not compatible with windows 7.

please suggest...

May be Audacity does not support your audio/sound controller in the laptop. Have you checked Audacity support for your computer system.

We recommend an external USB sound card.If you are going to do any serious dictation then you'll want to utilize a USB soundcard. You may be able to regulate the microphone input of your 2 speech recognition products to different soundcards so that you can run both products simultaneously. Sound output doesn't matter but 2 speech recognition products cannot share the same soundcard when they are running simultaneously.

As far as the volumes in your speakers is concerned, you'll have to turn down your speakers manually (assuming you have a hardware volume control on the speakers themselves). When you run the Audio Setup Wizard for your sound card, it takes over the volume input and output of your sound system. That's why your speakers are too loud on playback.

There are no problems in DXDIAG. I have found that if I disable the speakers I can use the microphone with voice recognition with no problems. Then, if I disable the microphone and enable the speakers, I can listen to sound with no problem. However, having both enabled with speech recognition running (even if no sound in or out) will cause the audio to stop responding. Should I try another sound card or just give up at this point.
