Sound card for Linux (Ubuntu 8.10)

Let it be said: Not all sound cards works equally well for Linux - my onboard one is of the really bad, so now I'm looking for a functioning sound card for Linux.

My needs are playing music and support the headset mic.

Thanks - must admit that I find it difficult to judge from the descriptions of the cards here as there are some good Linux drivers for them . Had actually heard vicious rumors that Soundblaster is not the best choice for Linux, but it might not fit?

Most SoundBlaster Live, Audigy, Audigy 2, and Audigy 4 cards are supported by the latest ALSA drivers. Most Linux distributions include these drivers.
