Problem Detecting Second Hard Disk Drive

I have recently bought a 500gb hard disk drive and i just connected to my motherboard. It's the second one as i already have 160 gb hdd. the problem is i am not able to detect my second hdd inside the bios and after the login into the system.

Please provide few views regarding this

Open disk management and see if your hard disk is shown there. Also open Device Manager, expand Hard drives and see if there are any conflicts.

Also did you update to Vista Service Pack 1 ? Most of the removable drive (usb/pen drive) not detected error was fixed in SP1.

Enter the system BIOS and see if the 2nd hard disk is detected there.

And for the removable drive, go to the Windows\Inf directory and delete the INFCACHE.1 file and then replug in your memory drive.

1. You need to insert the driver disk for a SCSI or RAID controller during
the installation process; or
2. You legitimately have a bad hard drive or HD controller.

Try the first, and if it works then you're flying.

It sounds like you have a hard drive controller that Windows has no drivers for. These days, it's usually a SATA controller, but it might also be a RAID setup or an obscure product. You will need the drivers for it on a floppy disk. Also, make sure you press F6 when prompted during the Windows XP setup.
