SATA drive is not recognized on MSI 865PE Neo 2-V

    Hello friends,
I'm sitting here with a friend for an extra hdd in PC building. It is a Samsung 750GB Sata drive. The motherboard is a MSI 865PE Neo 2 - V. Hdd that was sitting there already is a 80GB IDE disk.

Now, the problem is that the Sata drive is not recognized. The BIOS will not work. But I have different settings in the BIOS tried, such as:

P-ATA only (but keep sata enabled). Then the sata drive not recognized.
P-ATA + S-ATA. Then the disc are recognized by the BIOS, but windows (xp pro) does not start on the PC and reset itself remains at the time of the OS boot.
S-ATA only (keep pata enabled). Then the 80GB IDE drive no longer recognized.

In short, little strange ... but not good Someone tips / ideas?
someone was having the same problem, but those were resolved by the settings in the bios, I do not ......

    Thanks!

Typical msi problem, which is never good both sata + pata.
This board supports sata 1 to 150

The disk that you get is probably a sata 2 to 300 disk. Msi motherboards to hard (the sata controller) with SATA2 on sata1 .... You can try the samsung drive to find and a jumper to stabbing you move it back to sata 1.
Did this already happened in practice he recognizes him, but still inconsistent.

I'm already a step further now. In the bios the controller put in Legacy Mode.
P-ATA only (keep sata enabled) and then , 750GB Sata drive was recognized in the BIOS!

Only just before booting (when the auto hdd detection takes place) he still hung on 3rd IDE Master (not detected) and slave also blabla ...

Ultimately, he recognizes only the 80GB IDE drive. Windows was now suddenly a sata controller, but neeee ... no disc. I see now that this is not really well mobo'tje cooperates with sata drives.

edit: how do I put the SATA2 drive way back to sata1? It is one thing without OEM samsung manual nor jumper kits supplied ...

What if you once could do is remove the disk and read on the disc itself, there is a sticker with the standard stuff but compatibility mode sata 150.
issue of jumper is stabbing .. faces on the hdd itself .... and how you do that. there are a number of pins you back (I guess, from my head) on the third and fourth vertically jump cross. I hope that you have are another one somewhere.

Well if that was successful then I still have a problem with msi plates pata + sata.

This is one reason to msi away ..... or fully pata to continue.

    Thank you for the answers.

Yesterday evening I had tried one thing (which I thought that it would not belong), the hard disk in the other sata port stabbing (he sat the entire time in port 1, but just tried port 2) and it works!

Really super bizarre! Indeed in the future MSI motherboard's + sata drives more!
