Slow computer while accessing DVD-ROM

Hello Everyone,

Whenever i try to access files from my inserted CD/DVD, my computer works very slow. I don't know what happens but its quite irritating for me to continue my work on it. I cannot browse to any other files and even the other media also slow down intermittently making it very difficult to do anything else when accessing anything from the drive. It even takes lot of time while copying files from Cd/DVD rom. Can any one help me out to resolve this problem? Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Try to make sure whether your "dma" is enabled. I think Windows Xp does it automatically. You can also try to connect your CDROM and HDD on separate IDE channel, CDROMS work best as master devices.

You can try to upgrading your computer's RAM, hard drive, network card, or other hardware which can improve the the speed.

In conclusion, the easiest way to speed up an older computer (aside from checking your system for spyware or unnecessary files) is to add more RAM. If your computers seem sluggish and the programs you're running seem to take up a lot of memory, RAM will make your computer perform a lot faster. If your computer is low on storage, it can also be quite easy to add an additional hard drive.
