How to choose a HD

hello I'd like to know your opinion:
I would like to buy a hard drive as a reasonable size around 500GB
not being too much noise "scratching" while relatively rapid..

My own first I think a Western Digital's Caviar 640GB

what about Western Digital 500GB 7200 RPM S-ATA II Caviar SE16 there are less rapidly than can be 640Gb or is it noise?
