    Computer for 3D animation

I am a student of 3D animation and so I wanted your advice to change my config. I have the budget of Rs. 68 - 70K. I use: Maya, After Effects, Photoshop and painter. NO games, not even a little.

    Processor: Intel Core i7 920
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-DS4
    RAM: 3 x 1GB + 2 x 2GB (thinking of 3 x 2GB, just a matter of budget)
    HDD: Samsung SATA 1000GB

I do not know yet if I should stay with 32 bit operating system (I am on Vista right now) or go to 64 bit. Will see that later on ...

In all these outstanding issues, I need your advice!

Sonata III (I find it ugly). I would prefer a series of Antec NSK. It's more sober.
Keyboard & Mouse: I am open to any proposal.
    Graphics card: ATi Radeon 3870

I would prefer a Core 2 Quad processor rather than i7.

The i7 is very good but does not give as incredibly performance as Core 2 Quad. Also to half your budget Core 2 Quad is best (Q6600/Q9450). As your applications will be multi-threaded, there is no need of buying the new system of Nehalem. I would say you would see 25 - 30% of performance difference on a i7 920 compared to a Q6600/Q9450. So I do not think it is worth the price difference between the two platforms.

And if you have really want to spend money, then you can change your psu or do fun on screen / keyboard / mouse / graphics card.

In fact I wanted to take a machine that could "last" longer and "scalable".
The platform i7, in my eyes, have the advantage of accepting more ram modules.

And I would not be too tight on my "accessory" to keep a reasonable budget, but in fact I would go for saving money instead.

25-30% performance difference ... it seems to me very much.

For comparison, with the same cost you can mount two machines with Q6600 and will get 100% performance.

For ram, you can go with existing choice. Do you think you need more?

You talk that you use Maya. Do you think you're going to work on two scenes at the same time very often?

For graphics card, whatever you choose, but don't go for nvidia.

samar69, the i7 920 is in his budget. If he has the money to get a good config, why not? although I agree with you on everything

    - 2 PC for the price of one would be much better.

    - Graphics Card, it is clear that if you do not play, there is no point in breaking your wallet. Nvidia is the right thing according to me.

    - RAM. You need to know that 32 bits operating system can not recognize more than 3 GB. If you really want to see 6 GB or more, you need to have 64 bits operating system.

    - Housing: Antec P182

    Re: Computer for 3D animation

Computer animation/3D animation (or CGI animation) is the art of creating moving images with the use of computers. It is a subfield of computer graphics and animation. Increasingly it is created by means of 3D computer graphics, though 2D computer graphics are still widely used for stylistic, low bandwidth, and faster real-time rendering needs. Sometimes the target of the animation is the computer itself, but sometimes the target is another medium, such as film. It is also referred to as CGI (computer-generated imagery or computer-generated imaging), especially when used in films such as spiderman, batman, toy story, any action scenes and more.so more info google out renderrocket.
