How to copy data from first hard disk to second hard disk via USB

I wanted to copy data from one hard disk drive of my notebook onto another hard disk drive via USB. However cloning includes the hidden partition and the rest of HDD. Unfortunately when I use my laptop with my second HDD, it is impossible to boot. If someone has an idea? I have read that there was a security system in bios but I don't know.

Did you get any error message while doing so?

Rather try to make a complete picture of the hard disk and then deploy the new one.
