Computer freezed at welcome screen under XP

I am having a pretty old PC with me who no longer works now. It has Windows XP Pro installed on it and it was mounted by a friend.

Initially it was very slow when it went on the Internet. I thought this was the problem of line, but not so good. I watched it more closely and infact formatted it. But now I unable to make it work. I connected it on my another screen. Rebooted several times, but it remained frozen on "Welcome" and not even allowing me to access the bios. I checked it to see if a cable was disconnected. I even connected the HDD on another computer, which recognizes only one HDD IDE, but goes no further.

Is there something serious in your opinion?

It looks like a windows crash to me. If you can reformat the hard drive from another computer in my opinion then that would solve the problem.

Put the XP CD into the drive and launch Windows Recovery. It will help you recover from any errors and even if your computer gets attacked by some unknown virus.

Didn't you tried to boot in Safe Mode by pressing F8 at the launch of Windows?
If you can then save all your data. Once done then reboot and F8 to launch and try booting into "Last Known Good Configuration".
