What is the Standard Length of SATA Cable?

    Hi , all
For a long time i have been using Tower Cabinet. my sata drives resides on top drive cage it sata data cable just barely reaches it while looking extremely untidy Since all the standard SATA data cable is 0.45 meters I was wondering if there are performance difference for using longer cables? The standard has got to be there for a reason right?

It nots the Sata cable but Pata cables which are limited to 45cm(18 in).although Pata cables upto 90 cm (36) are readily available in the Market and Instead Sata are just limited to 1 m (39 in).but why you do need to put your drive on top drive cage just put it in lower cage. and make it hassle free.

It's simply the issue of strength of the signal. The longer the cable, the more powerful a signal you need to transmit and Longer cables also produce physical phenomena like phase distortion, skew and so many other things that wreak havoc on the signal. This all generally means that the ECC or Error Correcting Code has to work more and more often to recover or guess what the damaged signal is, this in turn reduces speed, throughput and increases the likelihood of data corruption.so it is better to with shorter cables
