Looking for new printer

I am currently using a Canon iP1700 that works very well but the problem is that I have it on a print server and the printer will not communicate back to the PC to advise when low on ink. Does anyone know of a good color printer that works well on a print server?

Some where I read that the Canon mf5770 series has smaller cartriages so they hold less ink. Is the print quailty that much better in the Canon mf5770.
