    How to Configure Firewall

Personal firewall software is designed to prevent connections between the network and your computer, except for programs that the firewall software knows are okay. Because Network Magic needs to make network connections to set up sharing and check for updates, your firewall software needs to allow these connections.

In any software firewall, you will need to configure or confirm two settings.
    1) Network Magic is permitted to make outbound communications.
    2) Inbound communication from other computers running Network Magic is permitted to get past the firewall to Network Magic.

Here are some general instructions that apply to any firewall software:

    1) Outgoing communication: Most software firewalls have settings for specific program control.

    • Find Network Magic in the list of programs. It is sometimes listed as "Pure Networks Platform Service" or as "Nmsrvc.exe". If it is not listed, you can add it to the list manually. (See your firewall documentation for specific instructions for how to do so.) The program to add is located here: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared\Platform\nmsrvc.exe"
    • Set Network Magic to "Fully-Trusted" or "Fully-Permitted".

    2) Inbound communication: Most software firewalls have settings that let you set up a trusted range or trusted zone.

    • Find the IP address of a router or computer on your Network (you can see the IP address on the details tab from the Network Map). The most common IP addresses are 192.168.0.x for x between 1 and 254.
    • Set the trusted range based on your IP address. The first three numbers should stay the same, and the last number should start at 0 and end in 255.

    Example IP
    Example Range
    192.168.0.2
    192.168.0.0 through 192.168.0.255
    192.168.124.66
    92.168.124.0 through 192.168.124.255
    10.0.0.10
    10.0.0.0 through 10.0.0.255
    10.255.255.3
    10.255.255.0 through 10.255.255.255

Some Firewall software won't allow for a range from 1 IP address to another IP address. In this case, the software should ask for an "IP address" and a "Subnet Mask". For these firewall programs, the IP address can be the IP address you found in step 2a, and the "Subnet Mask will be "255.255.255.0". This will tell your firewall to trust everything from 0-255 in the same range as your IP address.

It is also possible that your anti-malware programs such as anti-virus, Spy Sweeper, Spybot Detector, Spyware Doctor, etc. can mis-identify things that Network Magic tries to do (such as license for Network Magic Premium) as malicious activity.
