fountainhead: what firewall are you using? actually most of the IRC networks scan your ports as soon as you login so that they can kick any users who are running risky ports which can be used against other users by some crackers.
may be your ISP blocks any port scan attempts. it happens with my Sygate firewall. it used to block any port scanning IP for 10 minutes and then i also used to get that "DISCONNECTED". after i got rid of this option, i m able to connect fine. just a thought...

Has anyone used xdcccatcher? It has the ability to re-request broken downloads, so if your connection is timed out, it will automatically send a request again and will resume downloading. At least that's what they claim.

xdcc klipper had been shut down temporarily... Now its back up and kicking
    get version 4.34 here
    http://xdccklipper.sourceforge.net/xdcc_4.34.zip

But i will say try this too. Its a pretty good software...Under development
    Try this
    Bottler
    http://www.memelog.com/bottler/overview.html
Bottler is an application that creates an interface to IRC offer bots.

If you know where to look, there are hundreds of bots offering hundreds of files. The problem is that finding those files involves hanging out in IRC channels and watching reams of text stream pass. Bottler does all the watching for you by querying bots in IRC channels and then listening in those channels for when new bots arrive. Bottler will present the list of files currently being offered and will let you download them using inbuilt DCC transfer technology.
    My fav is bottler.

And yaa xdcc catcher is good but the pro version is 10euros and when everyone is giving these soft for free with the same functions... Who wants to pay for it?
