star Installing Audigy 2 drivers and Software for Live! /Audigy cards.

Guide for installing Audigy 2 drivers and Software on Live!/Audigy cards.

Install drivers meant for the Audigy 2 and enjoy the added benefits

    Requirements

    1) Audigy/ SB Live! Sound card
    2) Latest drivers and software suite for Audigy 2
    3) Creative Compatibility Patch
    4) Driver Cleaner.

    Downloading stuff:

First off download the creative suite for audigy 2 from

    http://users2.ev1.net/~dallasstar/a2..._multilang.rar
    ftp://server.topo.auth.gr/topolab/te..._multilang.rar

    Download updates from
    http://www.asia.creative.com/support/downloads/

It’s a huge download around 119Mb. Download the creative compatibility patch from
    -http://members.aol.com/dvdking2001/Pub/ctcomp.exe

Also download Driver cleaner from either
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3214.html
    http://www.drivercleaner.net/download/DC3Setup_33.zip

    Patching:

After downloading the audigy 2 drivers extract them to a directory of your choice. Then run creative compatibility patch and point to the directory \SB_INSTALL\Audio\Setup where you extracted the suite. If the patch is successful it is shown the following.

    Uninstalling old stuff:

Uninstall the previous drivers and suite u might have by going to control panel and add remove programs.

Reboot. Then run driver cleaner and clean up creative and creative lite. It is also recommended to run Cab cleaner. Reboot.

    Installing the Suite:

Now goto the directory where the patched drivers and suite is located and goto \SB_INSTALL\CTRun directory and click on Start.exe. While installing the Audigy suite u can choose custom installation option to deselect the applications you don’t need to install. SB Live ! owners please see the note below before installing the suite. Now install the suite and enjoy the added benefits of audigy 2 drivers. Any drivers updates u download can be patched similarly by running creative compatibility patch. Software updates need not be modified.

Important Note: Live ! card owners should not install the EAX console and creative speaker calibration applications since they don’t work well with the Live ! cards.

Hey, thats gr8 work, Blade........I also have a SB Live ! Value. Well, now I can extract an Audigy performance from my soundcard.......yipee!!! On second thoughts, I only have a 2.1 speaker set.....so I guess the performance difference won't be too notable.

    I have an audigy 1.
What "benefits" can i get from doing this ?

I had tried these more than a year or two back.

    1) for live and live value users: although by installing these drivers you will get added functionality of the new A2 drivers and software, the audio quality will be poorer than before. Since these A2 drivers are optimised for the newer cards. the best audio quality on live i got was with the "YouP-PAX-III" drivers , from a chinese site. a very good hack of the creative drivers.

for audigy and above series: go ahead and install these.

2)blade, you have forgotten to mention this, but upon uninstall of the old drivers and when you reboot then xp will automatically load and install the built-in creative sound card drivers (MS) upon startup.
solution: either temporarily disable plug and play services
    or
rename the creative sound card *.inf file. i cant remember the name right now Blade_runner, please fill in.

This will stop the xp drivers from loading.

I have basically made this guide for ppl who still havent tried this hack, and surprisingly not many are aware of it.
The file name is wdma10k1.inf and is it located in the inf folder in windows directory.

And the YouP-PAX-III drivers can be downloaded from the links below for those to wish to install these.

    -http://file3.mydrivers.com/files/sound/YouP-PAXIII-P.zip

@memories_dv: You might benefit from lower cpu usage and better sound clarity. But do try this hack and u will know for yourself.

Thanks Blade for filling in. and providing the link for the chinese site.

with these A2 drivers on a live or value , the sound gets a bit edgy, it has a metallic flavour to it. the high frequency (treble) is enchanced than normal giving a bit of lisping to the high vocals.
The low frequency (Bass), though enhanced too, becomes a bit loose, it is not as tight and punchy as before.

as i said this was "my" expirience with it. for others the mileage may vary since sound /audio is very subjective. what others may like i may not, and vice versa.
and i still got a live platinum with live drive II.

and for audigy and above cards this is recomended. since they have a better audio codec to take advantage of these new drivers.

You have to run the ctcomp.exe file and patch the drivers so that it can recognise your sound card. especially if it is live series or audugy1 series card.
