Insert SIM and battery
Before you can use your phone, you need to insert your SIM and the battery.
1. Remove the back cover
- Turn the back of your phone towards you.
- Take hold of the left side of the back cover and remove it.
2. Insert your SIM
- Place your SIM as illustrated next to the SIM holder.
- Slide your SIM into the holder.
3. Insert the battery
- Place the battery in your phone, top first, matching the battery contacts with the phone contacts and press the battery into place.
4. Replace the back cover
- Place the back cover on your phone and press it into place.
Activate Google account on phone
A Google account gives you access to Gmail, Google Play and Google+ on your phone. Remember, you need to set up your phone for internet.
1. Find "Google"
- Slide your finger down the display starting from the top edge of your phone.
- Press the settings icon.
- Press Accounts.
- Press Add account.
- Press Google.
2. Start activation
- Press Existing.
- To create a new account: Press New.
- Follow the instructions on the display to create a new account.
3. Activate Google account
- Press Email and key in the username for your Google account.
- Press Password and key in the password for your Google account.
- Press arrow right.
- Press OK.
- Follow the instructions on the display to select settings for your Google account.
4. Return to the home screen
- Press the Home key to return to the home screen.
Charge the battery
You should charge the phone battery regularly to ensure that your phone is always ready for use.
1. Connect the charger to your phone
- Open the cover at the bottom of your phone.
- Connect the charger to the socket and to a wall socket.
- When the battery charging icon is displayed, charging is in progress.
2. End charging
- When the battery is fully charged, you can remove the charger from the wall socket and your phone.
- When the phone is turned on, you can always see the battery power level on your display. The bigger the coloured section of the battery icon, the more power.
Turn your phone on and off
Remember, you need to insert your SIM and the battery in your phone before turning it on.
1. Turn on your phone
- Press On/Off until your phone is turned on.
2. Enter PIN
- Key in your PIN and press OK.
- If your phone rejects the SIM:
- Contact your distributor or service provider where you bought your phone.
- Your PIN is used to protect your SIM from unauthorised use.
- If you enter an incorrect PIN three times in a row, your SIM will be blocked.
3. Turn off your phone
- Press and hold On/Off.
- Press Power off.
- Press OK.
Guide to phone keys and sockets
The list below shows you what the different keys and sockets on your phone are used for.
On/Off
- Several functions are associated with On/Off:
- Press On/Off to turn your phone on or off.
- Press On/Off to turn on the screen lock.
- Press and hold On/Off to access silent mode and flight mode.
The Return key
- Press the Return key to exit an active menu item or hide the keypad.
The Application key
- Press the Application key to view a list of the most recently used menu items and applications.
The Home key
- Several functions are associated with the Home key:
- Press the Home key to return to the home screen.
- Press and hold the Home key to search the internet.
The Volume key
- Several functions are associated with the Volume key:
- Press the upper or lower part of the Volume key to adjust the ring volume.
- Press the upper or lower part of the Volume key during a call to adjust the volume.
- Press the upper or lower part of the Volume key to silence the incoming call alert.
Socket
- Connect the charger or data cable to the socket and to a wall socket or your computer's USB port.
Headset socket
- Connect the headset to the headset socket.
Heart rate sensor
- Place the tip of your finger on the heart rate sensor to check your heart rate when using S Health.
Camera lens at the back of your phone
- Point the camera lens at the back of your phone at the required object to take a picture or record a video clip.
Camera lens at the front of your phone
- Point the camera lens at the front of your phone at the required object during a video call.
How to write text
Text input is used in many of the phone functions, such as notes and messages.
1. Introduction
2. Add writing language
- You can select a number of settings when keying in text.
- The following steps show you how to change writing language, turn on word suggestion and write text.
- The following steps require that you're writing text and that the keypad is visible.
3. Turn on word suggestion
- Press and hold the field next to space until a pop-up menu is displayed.
- Press the settings icon.
- Press Select input languages.
- Press the required language to add it.
- Press the Return key.
- The selected language determines which characters are available and the language used for word suggestion.
- Press Predictive text.
- Press the indicator next to "Predictive text" until the function is turned on.
- Press Personalised data until the function is turned on.
- Press the Return key twice.
- When you turn on word suggestion, words based on the letters you've keyed in are displayed.
4. Write text
- Slide your finger right or left on space to select the required language.
- Press the letters to key in the required word.
- A number of words based on the letters you've keyed in are displayed.
- Press arrow right to see more words.
- Press the required word to insert it.
5. Write numbers and symbols
- Press Sym.
- Press the required numbers or the required symbols.
- Press 1/2 to see more symbols.
- Press ABC to return to text input.
Select network
You can set your phone to select a network automatically or you can select a network manually. If you select a network manually, your phone will lose network connection when the selected network is out of reach.
1. Find "Network operators"
- Slide your finger down the display starting from the top edge of your phone.
- Press the settings icon.
- Press More networks.
- Press Mobile networks.
- Press Network operators.
2. Select option
2a - Select network manually
- Your phone searches for networks within range.
- Select one of the following options:
- Select network manually, go to 2a.
- Select network automatically, go to 2b.
- Press the required network.
- The display will tell you if you have access to the network you've chosen.
2b - Select network automatically
- Press Select automatically.
3. Return to the home screen
- Press the Home key to return to the home screen.
Select network mode
You can select which network modes your phone should use. This selection influences the data speeds you can achieve.

- Slide your finger down the display starting from the top edge of your phone.
- Press the settings icon.
- Press More networks.
- Press Mobile networks.
- Press Network mode.
- Press LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), WCDMA only or GSM only.
- 3G (UMTS) or 4G (LTE) enables you to achieve higher data speeds than when using 2G (GSM).
- If you select LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), your phone automatically switches between the three network modes provided that you're within range of a 4G network.
- If you select WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), your phone automatically switches between the two network modes provided that you're within range of a 3G network.
- If you select WCDMA only, your phone can only connect to 3G networks.
- If you select GSM only, you can't achieve high data speeds.
3. Return to the home screen
- Press the Home key to return to the home screen.
Turn flight mode on or off
You can turn off all wireless connections so your phone can’t cause any interference with sensitive equipment in a plane or a hospital. You can still use your phone when flight mode is turned on, but you can’t send messages or make calls.
1. Turn flight mode on or off
- Press and hold On/Off.
- Press Flight mode to turn the function on or off.
- Press OK.
