Far Cry 3 fix for crash, freeze, low fps and other issues

One of the most awaiting game of this season has been released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Many Far Cry 3 lovers have already started playing the game. As usual some unlucky gamers might encounter some known issues while running and playing the game. So here, I am listing all of the known issues that might occur with a fix for the same.

Before installing Far Cry 3 one should be aware of Minimum requirements and he should update his hardware drivers to the latest as well.

Minimum Specifications:

• OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7
• CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 2.6 GHz or AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ @ 3.0Ghz or better
• RAM: 2 GB
• Graphics: 512MB Video RAM (1GB Video RAM), DirectX9c (DirectX11) Shader Model 3.0 (Shader Model 5.0)
• DirectX: 9.0c
• Hard Drive: 15 GB HD space
• Sound: DirectX Compatible (Recommended Surround Sound 5.1 capable)
• Other Requirements: Broadband Internet connection
• Requires a UPlay account

Supported Graphic Cards:

• AMD Radeon: HD 2900 / 3000 / 4000 / 5000 / 6000 / 7000 series
• NVIDIA: GeForce 8800 GTX / 9 / 200 / 400 / 500 / 600 series

If you are running laptop version of the above cards then you won’t be able to run the game as they are not supported.

I have covered whole lot of errors and issues below:

Launcher & Multiplayer Connection issue:

1. In case you have any kind of problem with Launcher & Multiplayer Connection then you can try out below solutions one after the other.
2. Update your anti-virus or firewall program
3. If that doesn’t makes any difference than try allowing below network ports in configuration of your router/ modem/ firewall

Far Cry 3 Ports - UDP: 21200, 7959, and 3074
UPlay Launcher - TCP: 80, 443, 13000, 13005, 13200
Achievements - UDP & TCP: 14001

Xbox360 Controller doesn’t work:
If you’re Xbox360 Controller refuses to work than and re-plug the controller and restart the game. If that doesn’t makes any difference than try updating your xbox360 controller driver.

Far Cry 3 Freezes on Loading or while loading Save Files:
If Far Cry 3 Freezes on loading or while loading Save Files than try verifying the game cache from Steam and check out the result for corruption. If the test comes up with any corruption then you will have to reinstall the game. If no corruption is found and problem persists than you can delete your save game file and restart the game.

Far Cry 3 Unavailable on Steam:
If you find Far Cry 3 Unavailable on Steam in your region than you can try running steam later, as this is mostly an issue from steam side and not your system. If you see it Unavailable even after a couple of hours than you can restart your system and modem or router.


d3dx9_27.dll Error in Far Cry 3:
If you get d3dx9_27.dll Error while launching Far Cry 3 than your system might be missing latest update of DirectX and you will have to install it for fixing the error.

msvcr71.dll, msvcr100.dll and msvcp100.dll Errors in Far Cry 3:
If you get msvcr71.dll, msvcr100.dll and msvcp100.dll Errors while launching Far Cry 3 than you can try installing packages for your system. Make sure that you are installing it as per the version of your windows OS.

• Microsoft Visual C++ 2005
• Microsoft Visual C++ 2008
• Microsoft Visual C++ 2010

System Reboot during Gameplay or Hanged/Freezes while running Far Cry 3:
This problem mostly occurs when ones tried to play Far Cry 3 in a system that has its component overclocked like processor and graphic cards. In case you are amongst them, then down clock those to their stock speed and re run the game.

Mouse Lag, No Cursor or Out of Control Cursor while running Far Cry 3:
If you face Mouse Lag, No Cursor or Out of Control Cursor while running Far Cry 3 than you can try disabling PostFilter, Shadows, AA and AF effects in case they are turned on. If disabling those things doesn’t makes any difference in your case than you can try lowering Sound Hardware Acceleration. In order to do that go to start > click on run > type “dxdiag” without quotes and hit enter. Now in dialog box > select Sound tab slide "Hardware Sound Acceleration Level" slider to the complete left in order to disable the Full Acceleration.

Black Screen or launcher doesn’t respond while running Far Cry 3:
If you get black screen after launching Far Cry 3 or its launcher doesn’t respond then you might have installed the game on external hard drive. In that case you will have to install the game on internal drive again.

You get Server Busy notification for Far Cry 3:
If you get Server Busy notification for Far Cry 3 then you can try downloading the game later. Since it is one of the most awaiting games of the season many people might have started downloading it at the moment leaving the server too busy. This issue mostly occurs between first 2 days when such awaited games are released.

In case you get the same notification after 3 days then there might be something wrong with your router/modem. You can try installing latest firmware for your Router. If that doesn’t makes any difference in your case then you can try restarting the router and use it directly from modem


Bad FPS and Slow Performance while running Far Cry 3:
For fixing Bad FPS and Slow Performance issue while running Far Cry 3 you can try turning off V-Sync from Graphic Options. If that doesn’t makes any difference in your case than you can try running Far Cry 3 on low graphics settings.

Antivirus Detects Far Cry 3 Files as Virus/Threat:
If you’re Antivirus Detects Far Cry 3 Files as Virus/Threat than you can try verifying your game cache file from steam. If it comes up with any corruption then you will have to reinstall the game. If test result comes up clean and your antivirus still detects Far Cry 3 Files as Virus/Threat than you can try updating your Antivirus or Firewall Programs, you can try adding Far Cry 3 to firewall and antivirus exceptions. If at all these things doesn’t makes any difference and your antivirus continues to report your Far Cry 3 Files as Virus/Threat than you can try disabling Antivirus or Firewall Program while playing the game. Just make sure that you are enabling them as you finish your game for the day.

DirectX Problems with Far Cry 3:
For any DirectX Problem you can first try installing or updating latest DirectX. Make sure that you are installing latest one for your version of windows OS accordingly.

Far Cry 3 Crashes to Desktop or results in Black/White Screen:
If Far Cry 3 Crashes to Desktop or comes up with Black/White Screen upon launching than you can first try running the game as Administrator. If that doesn’t makes any difference in your case than you can try running it in compatibility with “Windows XP SP3”. In order to run the game in compatibility mode you can follow below steps:

• Right click on game exe > Select properties > Click on compatibility tab.
• Now in compatibility tab, select the option saying “Run this program in compatibility mode”, select “Windows XP SP3” in drop down list and click on OK for saving the changes you have made.

In case “Windows XP SP3” option doesn’t work for you than you can try other compatibility options in the drop down menu.

If all of the above solutions don’t make any difference in your case than you can try disabling VSync, sampling and lower down the environment detail OR try running Far Cry 3 on different resolution options.

Far Cry 3 crashes at menu, while launching, while playing, while loading:
If Far Cry 3 crashes at menu, while launching, while playing or while loading than you can follow below steps one by one:

• Close unnecessary background applications that might be running in background with your game
• Delete all temporary files – Go to start > Click on run > Type “%Temp%” without quoted and hit enter > Delete all the files that will appear in Temp folder. Make sure that you are deleting them form recycle bin as well.
• Disable your anti-virus and other security programs
• Install latest version of your DirectX
• Install latest graphic card driver
• If you are using multi-core processor than try disabling them

Far Cry 3 doesn’t start or run after preparing to launch details:
If Far Cry 3 doesn’t start or run after preparing to launch details than you can follow below steps one by one:

• Verify the game cache files from steam
• Install all recommended windows update
• Install latest driver for your Graphic Card, sound card and other hardware’s whose drivers can be updated.
• Close unnecessary background applications that might be running in background with your game

Low or Bad Frame rates, Black Screen after Intro Video while playing Far Cry 3:
In case you get Low FPS, Black Screen after Intro Video while playing Far Cry 3 than you can follow below steps one by one:

Low or Bad Frame rates-

• Install latest driver your Graphic Card, sound card and other hardware’s whose drivers can be updated.
• If that doesn’t make any difference in your case than you can try running Far Cry 3 on lower graphic settings
• If at all you don’t see any improvement after trying out the above tricks than you can Disable Motion Blur, Shadows and Triple Buffering if they are enabled.

Black Screen after Intro –

• First Verify the game cache files from steam and disable your Antivirus or Firewall programs
• If that doesn’t makes any difference in your case than you can try launching the game by adding Novid added to launch options of Steam.
• If at all you don’t see any improvement after trying out the above steps than you can simply reinstall the game. Just make sure that you are making clean installation of the game. There should be no instance of the game in your system after un-installation.

Keyboard & Mouse Problems while playing Far Cry 3:
If you have problem with Keyboard & Mouse controls while playing Far Cry 3 than you can try installing latest driver for them respectively. In case installation of latest driver for them doesn’t make any difference in your case than you can try out below tricks.

Windows xp:

• Open Control Panel, click on the “Mouse icon” and disable Display Pointer Trails, Smart Move and Acceleration in Games option and save the changes you have made by clicking on OK.
• If you don’t see any improvement than open Control Panel again, click on “Accessibility Options”, disable “Use StickyKeys”,” Use FilterKeys’ and “Use ToggleKeys’ options. Also click on “Settings” and uncheck “User Shortcut” and save the changes you have made by clicking on OK.

Windows 7:

• Open Control Panel, click on the “Mouse icon” , click on “Pointer Option” Tab , disable Display Pointer Trails, Smart Move and Acceleration in Games option and save the changes you have made by clicking on OK.
• If you don’t see any improvement than open Control Panel again, click on” Ease of Access Center “, click on “Make the Keyboard easier to use”, disable “Use Sticky Keys”,” Use FilterKeys’ and “Use ToggleKeys’ options. Also click on “Set up Sticky Keys and Set up Filter Keys” and deselect “Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times and Turn on Filter Keys when SHIFT is pressed for 8 seconds options” and save the changes you have made by clicking on OK.

NVidia Optimus Problems while running Far Cry 3:
People running Far Cry 3 with Optimus technology are likely to face Black screens and crashes. If you are amongst them, than install the latest drivers for NVidia Optimus Graphic Cards also latest DirectX for your version of windows. If that doesn’t makes any difference in your case than you can try running Far Cry 3 on medium or lower graphic settings

Far Cry 3 Crashes on PlayStation 3 & Xbox360:
If Far Cry 3 Crashes on PlayStation 3 & Xbox360 than you can follow below solutions one by one.

PlayStation 3:

• Delete the Game Data from PS3 Game Data Utility.
• If no improvement, then you can create a temporary PS3 profile for running the game.
• If Far Cry 3 continues to crash then there might be something wrong with your game disk. Cross check and make sure that there are no scratches, dust, dirt or other damage on it.

Xbox360:

• Clear the cache by going in to Xbox>System>Settings>Device Options>Clear System Cache.
• If no improvement, then create a Silver Xbox Live Gamer tag for running the game.
• If Far Cry 3 continues to crash then make sure that there are no scratches, dust, dirt or other damage on your game disk.

No Sound, Low Sound, Delayed Dialogues Voices and Sound Stuttering while playing Far Cry 3:
If you face any of these problems while playing Far Cry 3 than you can follow below solutions one by one.

• Install latest version of directx
• Reduce sound acceleration
• Run the game in 44k Stereo settings - Open Sound Manager>Properties>Advanced Settings and choose 44k Stereo settings.
• Uninstall current sound driver, restart your system and let your system detect the sound driver automatically.

Steam Problems and Issues for Mac with Far Cry 3:
There has been a common issue with "Time Machine" in Mac systems. In case Mac PC gets any updates it rolls back the entire game and one has to start playing the game from start. In order to avoid this issue you will have to remove Steam from Time Machine. So for that run time machine, click on “Preferences”, click on “Options”, click on ‘+’ sign to exclude directory and add /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/ folder to the exception list.

If Far Cry 3 Freezes on Mac PC then first install all the new updates for it. For that, click on “Apple icon” at the top-left and click on “Software Update”. You will be presented with a list of available updates and you can install them simply by clicking on updates.
If installation of new updates doesn’t makes any difference in your case than you can verify game cache files from steam. Like I have been saying above, if it comes up with any corruption then you will have to reinstall the game.

Error ‘The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). Click Ok to terminate.’ Or Visual 2005, 2008 and 2010 Run Time Error while launching Far Cry 3.
Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005, 2008 or 2010 for your version of windows.

Steam error while playing Far Cry 3:

SteamInstall.msi and Error 1316 – If you get Error 1316 saying “A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file SteamInstall.msi” then install latest Windows Installer. Your current windows installer might have got outdated or it might have got corrupted

Error 1327, Invalid Drive – If you get Error 1327 saying “Invalid Drive” then you will have to use Steam Fixer Tool to fix the error.

Error while login – If you get an error message saying "This account <account name> has never been accessed on this machine before and a connection to steam servers cannot be made. Some services will not be available. Steam will continue to attempt the connection and services will be available upon success." then you can try logging back after some time. This is mostly due to some issue with steam network.

Error code 51 or Game failed to start – If you get Error code 51 saying “Game failed to start” then close unnecessary applications that might be running in background as they are likely to interfere with steam.

Far Cry 3 doesn’t work on Windows 8 systems:
Some people have reported that they are not able to play Far Cry 3 on windows 8. If you are amongst them than you can try running Far Cry 3 in compatibility with “Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)”. For running the game in compatibility mode you can follow below steps:

• Right click on game exe, select properties and click on the “compatibility tab”
• Now in compatibility tab window select “Run this program in compatibility mode”, select “Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)” and click on “OK “for saving the changes.

Missing Texture while playing Far Cry 3:
If you see Missing Texture while playing Far Cry 3 than you can follow below solutions one by one.

• Install latest driver your Graphic Card, sound card and other hardware’s whose drivers can be updated.
• Verify the game cache files from steam
• Disable Post Processing Effects from the game option if it is enabled
• If all of the above solution doesn’t make any difference in your case then you can try running the game on lower graphic settings

Can’t See Main Menu while playing Far Cry 3:
If you can’t See Main Menu while playing Far Cry 3 then install latest graphic card driver. If you don’t see any improvements then verify the game cache from Steam first, reinstall the game if the test comes up with any corruption. If no corruption is reported and you still can’t see the main menu then you can try defragmenting game cache Files from Steam and restart the game.

Far Cry 3 doesn’t work on Windows vista:
If you are not able to run Far Cry 3 on your Windows vista system then install Vista update (KB971512). Make sure that you are downloading update for Windows Vista (32-bit) or Windows Vista (64-bit) accordingly.

Installation error: "Description: Incompatible Version of the RPC Stub" while playing Far Cry 3:
If you get Installation error while playing Far Cry 3 then download and run mcrepair.exe for fixing it.

Launcher error "You are not allowed to continue because your do not have the proper privileges. Please log in using an account with administrator privileges and try again." while playing Far Cry 3:
If you get launcher error while launching Far Cry 3 than make sure that you are running the game as administrator. If you are running the game as administrator and you are still getting that error message than cross check and make sure that you have enabled all administrative privileges for your administrator account.

Error "Failed to create D3D device” while playing Far Cry 3:
If you get this error while playing Far Cry 3 than install latest version of DirectX for your version of windows. Also make sure that you have latest version of graphic card driver installed.

Error “Assassin’s Creed III Display Driver Has Stopped Working” while playing Far Cry 3:
If you get this error message while playing Far Cry 3 than go to program files > steam > steam apps > common > Assassin’s Creed III > Right click on “portal application” and click on “Troubleshoot in-compatibility issues” for fixing the error.

Error “Assassin’s Creed III.exe Has Stopped Responding” while launching Far Cry 3:
If you get this error message while playing Far Cry 3 even after installing latest graphic card driver than you can try installing some old driver suitable driver.

Error “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)” while launching Far Cry 3:
If you get this error message while playing Far Cry 3 than download .NET 4 and install it manually.

thing is that the notebook cards will run the game and and is clearly supported since they are the exact same chips as their desktop counterpart. the only difference being with a bit less GDDR5, worse cooling and fewer transistors and less silicone. do your research on hardware first before jumping on a conclusion wagon. else it seems that you cover up a lot of the other problems very well.
