How to connect Outlook to social networking sites

With the importance of taking the daily social networks like Facebook, Orkut and communication tools like Skype, it is becoming increasingly necessary to integrate them into the tool on which many of us spend most of their day: Office Outlook. The solution is called iLook, which transforms the tool into a Microsoft communication even more universal.

In standard, Office Outlook 2007 is not quite integrated with Windows Live Messenger and displays the status of your contacts while you can reach them directly without leaving the software to do everything from Microsoft.

But at present, initiatives seek to open it with Facebook, Orkut, Twitter, Skype and other networks are multiplying. At that point we did not need a tool like Google Wave have now a tool of communication truly unified, multi-networks.

iLook is an extension that is attached to the heart of Outlook 2007. Not only does it help you to better organize your Outlook folders, but more importantly, it connects you to Facebook, Skype and other networks soon.
    • Check that all occurrences of your Outlook are closed.
    • Download iLook.
    • Unpack the archive and double-click SetupILook.msi to start the installation. Follow the wizard step by step by clicking Next each time and checking "I agree ..." when prompted.
    • Once installation is complete, start Outlook.
    • A new component appears on the right of the Outlook window. Note that, like all Outlook components, it can be folded at any time by clicking on the "<<".
    • The program offers several functional tabs:
      • Search & Filter E-mails: a comprehensive tool that searches Outlook
      • E-mail Control: a tool for statistics on your emails
      • Facebook: the tool that integrates Facebook with all the cores of Outlook
      • Skype: For Outlook to communicate with your Skype contacts
      • Export Files: a tool that simplifies the sending of documents attached
      • Window Settings: to customize the component iLook.

    • Click on Settings Window
    • Click on Settings

    Facebook integration

We have already had occasion to address the "FBLook" for Outlook. ILook is an even more complete integration of the famous social network in the heart of Outlook.
    • Click on Facebook
    • The first time the login box appears. Log into your account by giving your username and password and check "Keep my connection to Outlook Connection."
    • Click Connect.
    • The panel is then transformed into a summary of the Outlook functions: it tells you the number of pending messages (Unread messages), the number of pending Poke (Unread Poke), displays a list of your friends (Friends) and events (Events).
    • Note that the Friends and Events sections are accompanied by a search function.
    • The bar icons should be composed of 4 things:
      • Profile: Displays the details of your Facebook profile
      • Photo Album: Provides interactive access to your photos and those of your friends
      • Publication: Update your status and simplifies the publication of a photo
      • Reload: Refreshes the list of friends.
    • In the list of your friends, right click on one of the contacts, which gives access to several functions:
      • Open Albums: Opens the photo albums of your friend
      • Open Profile: Displays the contact's detailed profile
      • Open Web profile: Displays Facebook profile under the web browser
      • Send Message: Allows you to send a Facebook message to that contact.

    Skype Integration

iLook integrates Skype look at the heart of Outlook. We find all the features of Skype in the Outlook pane:
    • Add contacts
    • Search for a contact
    • Call
    • Discussion by IM
    • Send an SMS
    • Send a file
    • Record a voice message

To contact a friend, simply click the right mouse button on it and choose the method of contact in the menu.

For the component is working normally, you must first install the Skype software on your computer (and you open an account using Skype username).

Note that when trying to access iLook for the first time at Skype, an alert will appear in the same window of Skype. Then select "Allow Outlook access to Skype". Until you have cleared this interaction, the iLook pane will not display the contact list of Skype.
