Re: Configure D-Link DAP 1353 Router

    General Wireless Information -

    Extend wireless network

You may need to install extra Wireless Access Points/Repeaters or use additional antennas to extend your wireless network.

Note - You will need to have powerful antennae on both ends of wireless link. Having a powerful antenna just at one end of wireless connection only, may not make any difference. The effective range will be limited by the weakest antenna used.

Any type of obstacles (trees, walls, glass, etc) will reduce the distance the radio signal travels.

Note - Not all network configurations allow the use of Wireless Repeaters. Wireless Repeaters (Access Points which support Repeater mode) have limitations on what devices they can repeat.

    Security -

If both your wireless access point/router and your wireless network adapters support WPA, I recommend to use WPA encryption as it is more secure compared to WEP.
Note - WPA and WPA2 (Enterprise) require RADIUS server to be installed on your network, however WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK (Personal) do not have this requirement.

To enable WEP encryption, you will need to enter the same HEX key for both the access point and all of the wireless adapters. A sample 40/64 bit HEX key is 1ac3a567b90 (Hex is 0-9 and A-F). If you enter this key for all wireless units on the network, they should all be able to communicate wirelessly.

To enable WPA-PSK (WPA Personal) encryption, you will need to enter the same passphrase for both the access point and all of the wireless adapters. The passwhrase should be at least 8 characters long.

Note that encryption may slow down the wireless network, as it adds overhead.

    To enable security -

In order to secure your wireless network you need to enable encryption in your wireless router/access point. I recommend WPA-PSK (WPA Personal) encryption.
After the security on your router/access point is enabled, you can get your wireless computers connected to the WLAN by specifying exactly the same security key you've set on your router/access point. You will be prompted to enter this key when trying to connect to the WLAN for the first time.

If your computer has been connected to the WLAN before and the WLAN security settings have been changed, you may need to delete the old wireless network profile saved on your computer. A new profile will be created automatically as soon as you connect to the WLAN with using the new security key.

    To delete a profile:

    • D-Link Air Utility
      • Click on Site Survey.
      • Highlight the WLAN profile under 'Profiles' field
      • Click on Remove.

    • Windows XP Utility
      • Go to Network Connections folder
      • Right-click Wireless Connection > Properties > Wireless Networks.
      • Highlight the profile under 'Preferred networks' field
      • Click on Remove.

    • Windows Vista
      • Navigate Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Centre.
      • Click on 'Manage wireless networks'.
      • Right-click on the network you want to remove
      • Select 'Remove network'.

Re: Configure D-Link DAP 1353 Router

Steps To Configure D-Link DAP 1353 Router

    Step 1
Verify physical connectivity by checking for solid link lights on the device. If you do not get a solid link light, try using a different cable or connect to a different port on the device if possible. If the computer is turned off, the link light may not be on.

    Step 2
Disable any internet security software running on the computer. Software firewalls like Zone Alarm, Black Ice, Sygate, Norton Personal Firewall, etc. might block access to the configuration pages. Check the help files included with your firewall software for more information on disabling or configuring it. Note that in some cases just disabling the firewall/antivirus software may not help, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the software.

    Step 3
Configure your internet settings. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double click the Internet Options Icon. From the Security tab, click the button to restore the settings to their defaults. Click to the Connection tab and set the dial-up option to Never Dial a Connection. Click the LAN Settings button. Nothing should be checked. Click OK. Go to the Advanced tab and click the button to restore these settings to their defaults. Click OK out to the desktop and close any open windows.

    Step 4
Check your IP address. Your computer must have an IP address in the same range of the device you are attempting to configure. Most D-Link devices use the 192.168.0.x range.

If you are attempting to configure a D-Link router, then make sure you take note of your computers Default Gateway IP address. The Default Gateway is the IP address of the D-Link router. By default, it should be 192.168.0.1.

If you are attempting to configure an Access Point or Print Server, you may need to configure your computer with a Static IP Address in the appropriate range.

To set your computer with static IP address:
    Windows2000/XP:
Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection > Properties > Internet protocol TCP/IP > Properties...
    Windows95/98/ME:
Control Panel > Network > TCP/IP protocol for your Network Adapter > Properties...

    IP address: 192.168.0.2
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS: 202.129.64.198 (or whichever your provider is using)

    Step 5
Access the web management. Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your D-Link device in the address bar. This should open the login page for your the web management. Use the instructions provided with your product to login and complete the configuration. There are several more FAQs that cover the configuration of the different D-Link Gateways, Access Points and Print Servers.

    Step 6
Set the browser to defaults, disable proxy settings and dial-up connections.
    Windows 95/98/ME : http://support.dlink.com/techtool/co...s.asp?OS=Win98
    Windows 2000/XP : http://support.dlink.com/techtool/co...asp?OS=Win2000

If you cannot log into the unit:

    Step 1
Recycle the power on the unit.
    Switch the power off.
    Wait 20 to 30 seconds.
Switch the power on and wait for the lights to stabilize.

    Step 2
    Restart the computer.

    Step 3
Open a DOS window and ping the gateway to make sure you are still connected.
    Windows 98/ME : http://support.dlink.com/techtool/co...T&kind=gateway
    Windows 2000/XP : http://support.dlink.com/techtool/co...P&kind=gateway

If your ping was successful, attempt again to access the web configuration.
Try these options in the address window.
    192.168.0.1
    192.168.0.1:88

If you cannot ping the unit.
Release and renew the IP address if you have the NIC set to obtain an address from the gateway.
    Reset the unit.
    Try using another computer.

    To reset the unit:
While the unit is powered on press and hold the reset button for 5-10 sec. Release the button and wait untill the unit boots up (1 min).

Try to access it using your WEB browser. Please make sure you do not have any proxies or scripts enabled in Internet Explorer (under Tools > Internet Options > Connection > LAN settings).

If the above does not help and you still can not access the unit try setting it into recovery mode and loading firmware:
Unplug power cable from the unit and press the reset button--While holding the reset button, plug the power cable in--Continue holding the reset button untill you will see LEDs on the unit flashing rapidly.
You should be able to log into the unit - you will see a prompt to load firmware.
The firmware is available on our WEB site: http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/

Re: Configure D-Link DAP 1353 Router

The problem can be due to 802.1x authentication. Try this out. First click on Start and then click on Connect To > Show all connections > and then right click on wireless network adapter. Now go to Properties and then under the option of Preferred Networks select your home network. After that select again the Properties. Then click on Data encryption > Association tab > remove tick from Network Authentication box. Under Authentication remove the tick from IEEE 802.1x authentication. Select OK to save the changes.

You can try to purchase a Linksys WRT54GL and install either DD-WRT or Tomato firmware on it. Set the wireless system in the GL into Client mode. Configure your IP's, Static would be best. Configure the wireless system in the GL to match your lan spec's. ( eg SSID, security etc.)
    And thats it. Simple.

Re: Configure D-Link DAP 1353 Router

When i connect the DAP 1353 to the internet, the IP i am getting is the one assigned to me by ISP (91.x.x.x.x) and not one within the router range (192.168.0.x), i am able to connect to the internet but i am not able to enter the router's configuration page as the 192.168.0.50 is not reachable.

Can anyone please help me what to do in this case?

    Thanks!
