The course of Engineering physics is meant to provide knowledge to a person in field of applied physics. A person who has knowledge of this field is expected to provide solution using the knowledge and understanding of mathematical, scientific, statistical & scientific principles. One can also conduct research on development, design or analysis to bridge the gap between theoretical science and practical engineering. Engineering physics is one of the most respected degrees in the world.

An undergraduate program in this field mostly focuses on application of well established concepts. You will be studying about the established methods for designing and analysis of situations by applying principles and methods of physics. A post graduate program focuses on creation and use of more advanced techniques. In today’s world where use of more advanced experimental and computational techniques for standard approaches are inadequate, a person will learn to develop solutions for contemporary problems by applying principles of Physics.

This course provides a good grasp on knowledge of physics to a person which opens new doors in field of engineering, architecture, medicine, veterinary, technology, agriculture and other applied science streams. People having such deep knowledge about physics can also apply for competitive exams like National Standard Examination in Physics which further leads to National and International Physics Olympiad Examinations. Indian Association of Physics Teachers under the aegis of Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) & Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) conduct these exams.

There are many colleges which provide B.Sc. degree in Physics. Many universities and private institute provide Masters Degree in Physics. Many central universities and state universities provide Doctorate Degree in Physics. IGNOU is one such university which provides distance education for graduation, post-graduation and doctorate degree. The university of Mumbai and department of atomic energy have collaborated to provide courses at post graduation level in science subjects. Application to Doctorate program is based on merits obtained in NEST/GATE exams combined with merits of entrance level exams conducted by institutes.
