    Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering is a place where both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science courses get combined. It gives training in electrical engineering, software design and hardware-software integration instead of just software engineering or electrical engineering. A Computer engineering student studies the design of digital hardware and software systems including communications systems and computers. They are involved in many aspects of computing from the designing of individual microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers to circuit design.

    Engineering in Information Technology

Engineering in Information technology deals with the study of designing, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware. It involves the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit, and securely retrieve information.

In my opinion the major difference between IT and computer engg is in IT the study is about only software based, but in computer engg the study about not only on software but also in hardware.

Computer engineering technology programs prepare people to help engineers design and build computer systems. Students learn to install and maintain equipment. They also learn to write and test software programs.

Information science programs teach people about the collection, organization, and use of information. Students learn about computer data storage and processing. They learn about systems planning and design. They also learn to develop databases that meet user needs.

If you have noticed in many universities, CS and Engineering are managed by one department, that is, the ABET, it is one of the professional accreditor of engineering programs, also accredits computer science programs. I have noticed that for combined departments, math and science requirements are the same for either degree. Also, almost all the Engineering Management graduate degrees will accept applicants with either Computer Science or Engineering degrees.
