Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University has initiated its admission process and is inviting applications for the new academic year, 2009-2010. Admissions shall be offered for 205 courses spread across nine faculties, 32 departments and 12 research centres.
The prospectus and forms for various courses offered are being sold from a centralised sales outlet run by the Maktaba Jamia behind the Old SRK Hostel on the main campus. The outlet shall remain open on all days including Saturdays and Sundays. Over one lakh prospectus and forms have been printed so far. Forms and prospectus can also be downloaded from the Jamia website and submitted along with a demand draft for the prescribed admission fee. All forms downloaded from the internet have a special hologram.
For professional courses offered in the faculties of engineering and technology, architecture and ekistics, education (for BEd and Diploma in ETE courses only), AJK Mass Communication Research Centre and Centre for Management Studies, the fee is Rs 500. For courses in all other faculties and centres it is Rs 200. All seats in all courses (except PhD) shall be filled through an open competition conducted through a written test, which will account for 85% of the total marks and an interview accounting for 15% marks. While for most programmes sale and submission of forms will last till early June, last dates for submission of forms for courses in mass communications is in May. The submission dates for some programmes are even as early as end-April.
Candidates obtaining less than 33 % marks in the entrance test will not be eligible for interview. Candidates, who have appeared at the qualifying examination but whose results have not been declared may also apply for admission. They must, however, submit their results/marksheets by the last date of admission as per the list in which the name of the student figures.
