Eligibility:
a) The candidate should be a citizen of India and should have undergone MBBS / BDS courses in the State of Tamil Nadu.
b) Candidates of Tamil Nadu Nativity who have completed MBBS/ BDS in other States shall furnish a certificate of nativity in Tamil Nadu issued by a competent authority only in the specified format annexed to the application form.
Candidates who have passed their MBBS / BDS Examinations and completed/ completing the CRRI period on or before 31-03-2009 are eligible to write the Entrance Examination. However the candidates should possess the permanent Medical / Dental Council Registration Certificates of the States or of India at the time of counselling for allotment of seats. Those candidates who are undergoing CRRI should enclose a certificate from Head of the Institutions in which they are undergoing the CRRI that they will be completing the CRRI on or before 31-03-2009, failing which their applications will be rejected.
The candidates should possess M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. Degree of Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University or of any other University recognised as equivalent to Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and recognised by the Medical / Dental Council of India. Candidates who have qualified from other Universities should produce ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE from Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Guindy, Chennai 600 032 at the time of counselling failing which they will not be considered for selection.
a) Diploma qualification is not necessary to apply for Post Graduate Degree courses.
b) The duration of Post Graduate Degree Courses for the Diploma Candidates who have undergone two year courses shall be Two Years in the same speciality and Three years in other specialities, except for candidates with DCP.
c) For MBBS candidates and Diploma Candidates who have undergone one year course, the duration of Post Graduate Degree Course is three years.
d) The duration of all Diploma Courses is Two Years.
e) For MBBS Candidates who opt for M.Ch (Neuro-Surgery), the duration of the course is Five Years.
f) For BDS candidates the duration of MDS Course is three years.
The candidates who have joined Post Graduate Degree/Diploma/5 Year M.Ch. Neuro Surgery / MDS courses in any branch and discontinued the courses on any grounds after cut off date fixed by the Medical Council of India and the candidates who have taken allotment for PG Degree/ Diploma/5 Year M.Ch Neuro-Surgery /MDS courses in any branch and not joined the course after 25.05.2009 are not eligible to apply for 2 years from the date of appearance for the Entrance Examination
Candidates who are undergoing a Postgraduate Degree/PG Diploma are not eligible to apply for any Post Graduate Degree/Diploma course/Five year M.Ch.(Neuro Surgery) Courses. However, candidates who are completing the Diploma Course on or before 31-03-2009 are eligible to apply and they have to enclose a certificate from Head of Institution that they will be completing their course on or before 31-03-2009 failing which their application will be rejected.
Candidates who have completed a Post graduate Degree or candidates who possess a Post Graduate Degree are not eligible to apply for admission to any other Post Graduate Degree/Diploma Course. A candidate (Private/Service) who is a diploma holder is not eligible to apply for another diploma course but can apply for any Post Graduate Degree Course
The Medical Officers / Health Officers employed in the Public Health Department or Corporation Service are eligible to apply for Diploma in Public Health irrespective of any Post Graduate Diploma or Degree already acquired. These candidates are eligible to draw pay and allowances but will have to pay the tuition fees. Out of the 5 seats in the DPH Course in Madras Medical College, 3 seats are reserved for Health Officers in Tamil Nadu Public Health Service and one seat is reserved for Medical Officers of Corporation Service. They are exempted from writing the Entrance Examination.
Those Service candidates who have put in LESS THAN TWO YEARS of continuous service as on 31.03.2009 either in Tamil Nadu Medical Service or in Local Bodies are not eligible to apply for P G Degree / Diploma / Five Year M.Ch. (Neuro-Surgery) / MDS Courses. Fractional values of year will not be counted.
