Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani Rajasthan is a Deemed University (established under section 3 of the UGC Act. 1956 under notification no. F.12-23/63.U-2 dated 18th June, 1964) running educational programmes both on-campus as well as off-campus, offering degrees at all three-tiers, namely, Integrated First Degree, Higher Degree and Ph.D.
SAP Labs India is SAP's second largest Research & Development and Global Services & Support center in the world. Founded in November 1998, SAP Labs India is one of the four global development hubs (Germany, US and Israel being others) of SAP that contribute to all areas of the SAP product value chain- Research & Breakthrough Innovation, Product Development, Global Services & Support and Customer Solutions & Operations.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BITS and SAP was signed on 08 August 2008 with the objective of fostering collaboration between the two institutions to promote academic and research interactions. The MoU was signed by Mr Kush Desai Managing Director on behalf of SAP and Prof L K Maheshwari Vice Chancellor on behalf of BITS Pilani. BITS would offer educational avenues at various levels to meet the human resources development needs of SAP through its Off-Campus Work Integrated Learning Programs. SAP would endeavor to make available the necessary facilities for the implementation and continuation of the Practice School Program of BITS Pilani after discussions between the two organizations.
A Coordination Committee consisting of Vice-Chancellor, BITS as Chairman, and two nominees each from SAP and BITS would plan, coordinate and monitor the academic and research programmes as well as all related operational matters within the framework of the academic regulations of BITS and the objectives outlined by SAP.
The grand inaugural function of the first batch of MS Software Engineering (Four years duration with BSc or equivalent input) for the 39 candidates sponsored by SAP took place on o8 August 2008 at Bangalore. It was attended by top SAP executives and Dean Work integrated learning programmes BITS Pilani along with faculty members from Bangalore off campus centre of BITS.
In India today, the SAP BITS Pilani tie up marks yet another milestone in industry university collaborations.
