    Replace KDE desktop environment

    Hello,
    I am beginning and I have KDE4 installed on my Gentoo and slows me down my system completely, with lag etc.. So I decided to switch to something lighter, as is already the case on my netbook. But I would like your advice on some apps that I know little. For the Window Manager, I thought that I use Openbox on my netbook and is very easy to configure. I also thought Fluxbox but I do not know what the main differences? So I need some of the applications installed which are from the KDE environment and all the other to be removed. How do I do this? Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    Some of the application which you should not delete from the KDE desktop environment.
    Amarok: MPD ( me is a fanboy, but there are others)
    Reading images: gqview, qiv, mirage choice
    k3b: wodim (If you want the chart, you can look towards xfburn)
    On more question for you. Why do you want to remove the KDE desktop environment? If you give us the reason and if we can solve your query then why to remove the KDE desktop environment. I think KDE is a good environment to work on.

    Hello,
    I have a directory ~ / music and in which each directory is an album. As always listen to music by album, it suits me perfectly, but otherwise it should actually use something more complex. After that, it depends on what you want to do but tar (1) seems quite appropriate and is very light. So, feh (1) also is "command line", but worth to do so.

    Hello,
    For feh (1), it must pass back to display images, for example
    Code:
    $ Feh *
    to display an entire folder. I advise you read the manual to see some controls available for use. tar (1) can list the files:
    Code:
    $ Tar tf archive.tar.
    Then if you want to browse the contents of an archive so transparent, it must actually something else.

    Hello,
    If you wish to delete the KDE or rather remove from your system the you can remove it completely. And the software which you are talking about can also be found on the GNOME desktop environment.
    See below
    - Guake
    - Gmusicbrowser
    - Nautilus => Eye of gnome (eog)
    - File-roller
    - Gnome-baker (although frankly k3b is better)
    Some of the useful softwares in gnome desktop environment.

    Hello,
    Some important software's in linux based operating system
    Amarok: mpd + Ario dark, I am very satisfied, nothing to envy to Amarok.
    Image Playback: Mirage tends to be slow because of the thumbnails, otherwise it is good to see a large directory of images feh is more interesting.
    K3B: Brasero is simple, lightweight and gets the job done.
    I think which ever environment install you need to install these softwares.
