The Norton Antivirus icon is active all the time. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del. The Task Manager will open up in which you can view the entire list of all the programs that are currently running. If you can see the Norton Antivirus running in the task manager, then dont worry, it's perfectly active and possibly might have hide itself (autohide) for some reason. Re-installing Norton would fix the missing icon in the system tray.
do the following -
- Count the number of icons in the system tray.
- Log off and Log on again.
- Wait for few minutes, then check whether NIS security icon reappears. Also, count the number of icons in the system tray and see if it has changed from previous.
- Check in NIS settings and see whether auto-protect and early load is ON.
- Right click an empty area in the task bar.
- Select Properties.
- In the Notification Area, check "Hide inactive icons"
- Click on Customize
- For Norton Antivirus, it may be "Hide when inactive". Click on it and change it to "Always show".
From now, even when Norton is inactive, it's icon will appear in the system tray.
