idea How do i change Desktop background when locked

    Hello Friends,

I'm having a laptop on which Windows Vista had been installed. I would like to know that it is possible to change the desktop background when it is been locked. Is there any way by which i can change the desktop background? Does any one knows about this issue? Kindly suggest me the correct logical steps. Any kind of information on the above issue would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Go to Control Panel-->Display-->Desktop tab-->Customize Desktop button. In the Window that opens, go to the Web tab and uncheck everything. Click OK and Apply. See if that will let you change the background.

The problem you describe is a symptom of the SpySheriff/Smitfraud group of infections, here's the specific fix for regaining full functionality of your desktop properties.

    • Download the smitfraud.reg file by right-clicking on this link and choosing "Save link as" or "Save target as" from the resulting pop-up menu. Save the file to your desktop.
    • Double-click the smitfraud.reg file you saved, and when it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click YES.
    • Reboot your computer; your display properties should be returned to normal.

You might want to check with the computer administrator if you are not the administrator. They have the ability to lock the desktop wallpaper, but there's many ways to get around it.

You have the infamous registry entry that locks the desktop. Put there by a
    spyware program.

Start--> Run. Type regedit. click OK.HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Look in the right pane for a value called Wallpaper. If it exists, right
click it and select Delete. It has an immediate effect. You can check Display properties as soon as you delete the value wallpaper. No need to reboot.
