Stop Vista changing folder view automatically

Hello,

Vista changes the views of every folder accoeding to their contents but for some folder i want ti to be constant . is it possible? Any setting for that? i don't know, i have tried everything that i knew but not making any difference. Anyone have any idea?

Vista uses folder templates to control the views.

To see the templates, right-click on a folder --> properties- -> customize.

It generally works by choosing a template type (e.g., Pictures and Videos) for a folder. Go into that folder, choose what layout you want under the View menu (e.g., Small Icons) then applying those settings to ALL folders set to use the same template by clicking Tools --> Folder Options --> View --> Apply to Folders.

Now, all the folders set to use that template wil be showing Small Icons.

You then need to repeat for each of the template types.

You may encounter problems with some folders forgetting settings or an entire template forgetting settings. There's no real fix for that.

If that happens or before you attempt to setup all the templates, you can clear ALL your current folder appearance settings by deleting the following 2 registry keys:

{HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU}

{HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags}

Then restart, and all your folder appearance settings will be reset to default.

To disable and turn off automatic folder type template discovery in Vista, users must reset folder type and view settings to default first. Then continue with following steps:

1. In Registry Editor (regedit), navigate to the following registry branch:
   
   
   

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell

2. Right click on Shell in left pane, select New and then click Key.
   
   
3. Type Bags to create a key named Bags, and press Enter.
   
   
4. Right click on Bags that just been created, select New and then click Key.
   
   
5. Type AllFolders to create a sub-key named AllFolders, and and press Enter.
   
   
6. Right click on AllFolders that just been created, select New and then click Key.
   
   
7. Type Shell to create another subkey named Shell, and then press Enter.
   
   
8. Select Shell key that just been created, and then right click on an empty area in the right pane, click on New and then select String Value.
   
   
9. Type FolderType as the value name, and press Enter.
   
   
10. Right click on the Folder Type and click Modify or simply double click on FolderType.
    
    
11. Type NotSpecified as its value data.
    
12. Click OK.
