Create and use virtual folders in Windows Vista

A virtual folder behaves like a standard folder but its content is defined in a dynamic manner. The material in this virtual folder is actually stored in their files real origin. The major advantage of a virtual folder is to centralize power in the same place, direct access to all files of the same type, and regardless of the location of the file to your PC.

We will create as an example, a virtual folder which you can then access the files of the same type (*. jpg), scattered in different locations on your hard drive.

    1. Search for the type of image *. jpg. Jpg type in the search box and then type Enter

    2. A window containing the search results displayed. Now click on Save Search

    3. Enter a descriptive name and save the search for example on the desktop.

Vista has created a shortcut on the desktop. Clicking on it will now offer access to all your image files scattered on your hard drive.

You can repeat the operation and create virtual folders for your audio files, videos, etc..
