Photoshop - black and white counterparts

Wondering if in photoshop can create a layer that changes after the stock? What I want is to have a warehouse with a color image, and above it a stock which is its black and white counterparts. When I change the colors of bottom layer, I would see black and white outcome in the upper layer when it is activated. It would avoid creating a new black and white picture every time I test different color combinations. Is it possible to do? If someone now to take what I mean.
