We will explore the parameters to customize the command prompt.

Start by opening the command prompt via the Start menu accessories or simply by typing CMD in the search box on the Start menu.

Once the console open, click the icon in the window in the upper left corner to deploy the windows menu, then click Properties.

Change Font:



  • Open the Font tab

  • First select the font that you like (for example, Lucida Console)

  • Select the size in the list


Note that this list is different depending on whether one opts for Raster Fonts or Lucida.

  • Check the box bold fonts if you use high definition graphics.


Note that Vista displays a preview of the expected result at the bottom of the dialog box.

Changing colors:


  • Open the Color tab

  • Check first text and then click the light green in color range

  • Check Background then click on the Black color in the palette of colors

To validate this customization, click OK and then close the console window. Customization will be reused at the next launch of the console.
