Hi there,
Recently I have had my aero functionality disappear from my copy of Windows Vista and have tried everything to rectify it. If I right click the desktop > personalise > window color and appearance, then the option to select Windows Aero is not there, it is also absent from "themes". If someone could help me with this issue it would be much appreciated, also I consider myself a fairly advanced user so please assume I have tried the obvious.
System Specs:
Windows Ultimate OEM Version (32 Bit), Legitimate Copy)
Intel Quad Core 2.4Ghz
Nvidia 8800GT 512MB
2GB Kingston Ram
Asus P5KR Mobo
Windows Experience Index/Rating - 5.3
Things i've done so far
- Fully updated every aspect of Windows through Windows Update to the point where I only have "language packs" available
- Updated my graphics drivers from nvidia.com to the latest, also tried manufacturer drivers which were out of date
- Updated my bios from asus.com to the latest
- Rerun the Windows Experience Index multiple times
- Edited particular registry values according to advice given from information i've found through google in particular relating to WDM in HKEY CURRENT USER, reverted after no change
- Tried stopping and starting "DWMSM (Desktop Window Manager Session Manager)" and "Themes" through task manager > services, and confirmed they were functioning correctly
- System restore is not an option due to no economical restore points available
- Removed Apple Quicktime on advice from various websites due to supposed conflict
- Checked that my power management settings were set to Balanced to avoid conflict on suggestions from various sites
- Checked my advanced system settings to make sure "Visual Effects" were not disabled or set to a minimum
- Tried running "Winsat" on recommendations from various websites
After searching and trying various alternatives for a good six hours I am truly stumped. I know the information is out there, I just have had next to no luck finding it.
Thanks for your help in advance!
