I am running Win XP Pro on my computer. My desktop icons are having some background colour behind each icon's name which I don't want. I checked in the properties, but can't find how to make the changes. How can I remove the colour?

Go to Display Properties -> Appearance Tab -> Effects Button -> "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" Set to Clear Type -> OK.
If that didn't work then
Go to Display Properties -> Desktop Tab -> Customize desktop -> Webs Tab -> Un check if anything is selected.
I was also facing the same problem. After googling a lot got the result. It generally happens when the value of ForceActiveDesktopOn is set to 1(true)
Here is the solution:
- Go to Run, type 'regedit' and click ok. This will take you to registry editor of windows (Save your registry if you are not confident enough)
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
- Change the value of ForceActiveDesktopOn to 0
- Profit.
I was also having this shadow kind of thing in the background of my desktop quite annoying to me! Anyway thanks for the solution!
