Antec EarthWatts 500W PSU enough for HD 7870 card?

My current system that I have build is based on a Gigabyte motherboard with 8GB RAM along with Antec EarthWatts 500W PSU. I am looking to upgrade to HD 7870 graphics card in the coming days. Many where I have read that this card consumes approximately 210W or so and therefore it is recommended to buy a 700W PSU? So, I was confused whether I should buy a new 700W power supply or use this video card with Antec PSU only? Can anyone suggest me will I be fine with the PSU that I have for this card? Thank you

Since you are using a single Radeon HD 7870 graphics card, then not more than 500 Watt or greater power supply is needed for it, since its the minimum for the card to work on just fine. Your power supply will be also having a max +12 Volt constant current rating of 33 Amps or perhaps a little greater. And since it also has 2 6-pin connectors of PCI Express, then I dont think there should be any problems.

Antec EarthWatts 500W is made by Seasonic and therefore it is a great PSU. You can expect upto 575W and below 55ยบ C without any problems. You will also get very high efficiency like 80%-83% until 380W. On the +12V the voltage regulation is also quite good that will give 408W on the two 12V rails. And as said, you also get 2 power cables for the graphics card.

If you plan to do some overclocking of the CPU or the graphics card then you might require some extra power to +12 Volt continuous current ratings and then you will be fine for overclocking to meet the increase in power that is required by it. If you are just using a single card then the PSU more than sufficient with its +12 Volt rating and also the 2 6-pin power connectors. Hope this helps you out for choice.
