Administrator account does not have suficent privileges to create

We are running a Small Company and have recently bought a new Server on which we want to reinstall our Windows 2000 server software. If I am trying to use DCpromo to create an additional domain controller, so that I can promote this and retire the old server, the software wont allow our Admin account to create an additional domain controller. It will give the message that the account does not have sufficient priviledges. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Can you try to check to see if the admin accounts have the rights to create computer accounts in AD or not. You will also need to check on the top level of the domain as well as the DC computer OU.

You need to verify that the default domain controllers policy exists in Active Directory and is granting the “Enable computer and user accounts to be trusted for delegation” user right to the Administrators security group or alternate user accounts used to promote and demote domain controllers in the target domain.
