Problem with Group Policy GPMC tool - failing to generate report

Is there anyone who has come across the below error message when trying to view the settings tab on a Group Policy object:

"An error occurred while generating report: An unknown error occurred while the HTML report was being created."

I have been using the latest GPMC tool on Windows XP SP2 workstation which is fully updated. I think that a recent hotfix might be causin XML and or HTTP application problems. Also, the offer remote assistance tool is not working on my workstation as well. Does anyone have any suggestions for this problem? Thanks.

Will you please let us know the method and the exact error that you are getting? When you have installed the GPMC in a different computer, then do you have the same issue?

To adjust the security zones automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in this wizard. More information over here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/182569/en-us

You get this error if you have Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration enabled. If you edit the GPO User Config > Windows Settings > Internet Explorer Maint - Change your settings to "Do not customize..." instead of Import. Relaunch GPMC and you should be able to generate the report.

    Hope this helps.

THANK YOU!!!!! I have had this issue for years and I always thought that maybe some of the GPOS were corrupt, but they were way to complex to rebuild, and I had no easy way of printing out all the settings, but to do screenshots, and honestly that was way too much work as well. I was so happy to read anetadmins reply, I read it and a light bulb went off! I went back to my GPO's and turned off security control for IE and VOILA! I can now see all them policy settings in a report form AGAIN! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

But, what if you want to leave import enabled inside the Internet Explorer Maintenance\Security\Security Zones and Content Ratings, so you can apply some trusted sites for plenty of users ? How can you sitll fix the error:

"An error occurred while generating report:
An unknown error occurred while the HTML report was being created."

I too need to use this feature to push Trusted Sites. Any resolution? I am able to view the GPO settings on the 2k8 R2 domain controller, but I'd like to continue editing on my XP workstation.
