I'm having the same problem. My computer no longer has any printers available. When I open Printers & Faxes under the control menu, it says the print spooler service is not working. This is ridiculous!!! | Re: spoolsv.exe - Application Error, after updating to Winodws XP SP3.
Usually this is caused by a third party component loaded into the Print Spooler process that is defective and causes stability. It is likely that Service Pack 3 simply exposed a defect (bug) in a driver, print monitor or other component. If so, it would be the responsiblity of the printer manufacturer to provide an update to the component. This article explains more: http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm You can use the advice in this article to clean your system of third party components, then add them one by one until it crashes again. Then you have found the defective component. You can try getting a newer version from the printer manufacturer's web site. If that does not work, you may need to start a support incident with them. This happens so much that perhaps the security folks and the printing folks at Microsoft need to get together and find a way of isolating bad printer drivers.
