Motorola Q-Phone and Active Sync

There was a user who connected the Motorola Q-Phone to the usb port to a computer which was running Windows XP with service pack 2 without installing its software or driver? Now the computer is showing 2 driver letters to usb devices at the machine startup although there are no usb devices connected. When checked in Device Manager then it reports "Generic Flash HS-CF USB Device" and a "Generic Flash HS-Combo USB Device" hardware installed. Also, it reports that both the drives are removable storage devices with 0 total space available. I dont know whether this Q-phone has PnP components that was recognized when the phone was connected or if Active Sync ran. Any suggestion?

Re: Motorola Q-Phone and Active Sync

The phone that you are having must be having a memory card slot and therefore Windows is recognizing the memory card from the phone as a usb drive. You can try to remove the same devices by going into Device Manager. You can also try the below batch file which might be able to let you access Device Manager to clean up the devices:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
cd %SystemRoot%\System32
start devmgmt.msc

Re: Motorola Q-Phone and Active Sync

I have tried to uninstall the USB devices in the Device Manager but when the system restarted the devices reappeared. I think that there could be some registry renry that is loading the device drivers and then allocating the driver letters at machine startup. I dont want to start editing the registry without knowing what keys need to be changed and what effect it might have on other things.

You should try to restart the system without the phone connected to the computer. Incase the phone is connected when XP is booting then it will always come back. After that you can look for the Motorola drivers and then install the same before you reconnect the phone in your computer. This will help you out.
