| XP not detecting hardware (touchpad)
My ACER Aspire 5610 laptop froze recently and I had to restart it but when I did the touchpad (Synaptics TouchPad v6.2 on PS/2 Port3) was not working anymore. Therefore, I uninstalled the driver in order to try re-installing it hoping it would work. However, now the laptop does not detect the touchpad so even if I install the driver it does not work now (according to the 'mouse properties' this device is working properly). The interesting thing is that every time I restart my laptop I get a message telling me that a 'printer' was detected even though I don't have any printer installed neither locally nor in a network. The installation of this 'printer' always fails. How can I force the computer to detect my touchpad? Do I have it assigned to the right Port? This touchpad came with the laptop and has been working fine all the time. |

Will a usb-mouse work? Try system restore to the day before the freeze happened. Sounds like the touchpad driver was corrupted or otherwise interfered with by something (likely software). |

| Re: XP not detecting hardware (touchpad)
I wrote to Acer and got the solution fro them. There was a key combination (FN + F7) that activates the touchpad and it seems that during the crash it was deactivated somehow. All I had to do was uninstall the driver, then uninstall the hardware and re-start. Then it was detected and installed and then with the keys I turned on. That problem with the 'printer' seems to have been created by me when trying to install a driver. It's all good now ... thanks |

| Re: XP not detecting hardware (touchpad)
I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 4730Z lapto. However, I could not get the touchpad to work. Restarting and updating would not help. However, after reading this article, used the simple step (Press Fn + F7) and the touchpad started working!!! Thanks. Thanks :) |

| Re: XP not detecting hardware (touchpad)
hi all, currently i'm using aces notebook 4730z..my problem is whenever I typing whether in excel or words suddenly the cursor will move to different line... FYI, i'm using a mouse and at the same time my touch-pad is enable. could it be my touch-pad setting, and i've seen that whenever i press Fn + F7 the touchpad seems disable, how about I want to maintain it into enable mode and at the same time using my mouse. Is there any software or driver that i can use to set my touchpad. thanks |

Happens all the time :) It's mostly because the keyboard is pretty small, and you land up hitting the touch pad every now and then. If you are using an external mouse, just disable the touch pad (Function + F7). This should take care of the focus issue. About the detection of an external mouse, that shouldn't be a problem. I use an external mouse and my touch pad at the same time, without any issues or configuration changes. |
