DVD/CD Drive No longer recognised as DVD

I have a computer with XP used solely for video editing.

The only new software would be the automatic XP updates, although I do not think this is the problem.

It has suddenly stopped recognising the DVD/CD writer although it still operates as a CD reader and writer.

I have followed the Microsoft advice about removing the upper and lower filters however the registry entry does not have any upper and lower filters.

I have an identical machine at work - and it does have upper and lower filters.

If this is the problem, what is the best way to restore the filters. Is it OK to copy the Registry entries from the work computer, or is there a better way.

Many thanks for any help.

RE: DVD/CD Drive No longer recognised as DVD

Open device mgr,expand the dvd/cd tree,R.click on the hardware,select,un-
install, close out device mgr, shutdown pc,connect the drive to another IDE
connection (reset jumper pin(s)),start pc,xp will reinstall it.Also,if the
drive
is a "liteonit" go to thier web site, download & install the firmware for the
device,they all have an update...

Solution Found

Many thanks for suggestion.

Eventually found that problem was being caused by Acer eLock. Another source suggested removing the Acer eLock software. However there was no Acer eLock software evident, so removed all Acer software and the problem was fixed.

Suspect that the Acer software included with the Acer computer has eLock as a standard function, however it had not been configured on this computer, but somehow had been activated with no means of deactivating it.

Regards
